Engagement ring designs come down to nine. A solitaire holds one diamond. A pavé band, a halo or a hidden halo adds small diamonds around it. Three stone and toi et moi rings carry more than one main diamond. Bezel, vintage and split shank rings change the gold around the stone. Each one below, with real rings and prices.
Shape and design are two separate choices. The shape is the outline of the diamond; the design is everything around it. If she already knows the shape she loves, our shape guides show the rings we make in each one: oval, pear, emerald cut, princess cut, cushion cut and marquise. Or see all our lab grown diamond engagement rings in one place.
1. Solitaire: one diamond, nothing else
A solitaire is a single diamond on a band. Every other design starts from it, and it is the one that never has to explain itself. The choices are small and they matter: how many prongs, how high the stone sits, how slim the band is. It suits a woman who wants the diamond to do the talking, and it never competes with the wedding band that joins it later. Our guide to solitaire rings for women goes through the settings and sizes.
Amora four prong round solitaire, from around ₹41,000. A round diamond in four prongs on a slim plain band, 0.41 carat.
Amora radiant solitaire, from around ₹49,000. A radiant cut diamond, a rectangle with its corners cut away, in four prongs on a plain band, 0.50 carat.
2. Pavé band: a line of small diamonds
Pavé comes from the French for paved. Small diamonds sit close together along the band, so the centre stone stays the focus and the band adds a line of light. It suits a woman who likes her hand to catch the light from the side as well as from above. A band set with diamonds all the way round is a different ring, the eternity band, and our guide to diamond eternity rings covers it.
Amara round solitaire with side stones, from around ₹1,61,500. A round diamond in four prongs on a band lined with rows of small round diamonds, 2.38 carat in all across 75 diamonds.
3. Halo: a frame of small diamonds
A halo rings the centre stone with small diamonds. The frame makes the centre read larger than its own weight and adds sparkle at every angle. It suits a woman who wants presence on the hand without a very large centre stone. Our halo engagement rings guide shows how a halo changes the look, the size and the price.
Sol round halo ring, from around ₹1,06,500. A round diamond inside a halo of small diamonds, on a band set with more small diamonds, 1.36 carat in all across 31 diamonds.
4. Hidden halo: a detail at the side
A hidden halo sits under the centre stone instead of around it. From the front, the ring reads as a solitaire. From the side, a ring of small diamonds shows beneath the stone. It suits a woman who likes a clean front and a detail she notices more than anyone else does.
From the front
Mira round hidden halo ring, from around ₹1,12,500. A round diamond held by slim prongs on a band set with small diamonds across the front, the halo tucked out of sight beneath it, 1.46 carat in all across 35 diamonds.
From the side
Mirage round hidden halo ring, from around ₹71,000. A round diamond in four prongs above a ring of small diamonds, on a plain band, 0.84 carat in all across 15 diamonds.
5. Three stone: one centre, two companions
A three stone ring sets a centre diamond between two smaller ones. Some read the three as past, present and future; others simply like the width they give across the finger. The side stones can repeat the centre shape or contrast with it, and the contrast is where the design gets its character. It suits a woman who wants more breadth on the hand than one stone gives.
Aria oval three stone ring, from around ₹44,000. An oval diamond between two smaller diamonds on a plain band, 0.50 carat in all.
Aria round and tapered baguette ring, from around ₹1,02,500. A round diamond between two tapered baguettes, long slim diamonds that narrow towards the band, 1.15 carat in all.
Aria heart and round trio ring, from around ₹1,27,000. A heart shaped diamond between two round diamonds, on a band set with small diamonds, 1.72 carat in all across 35 diamonds.
6. Toi et moi: two diamonds side by side
Toi et moi is French for you and me. Two diamonds, often two different shapes, sit next to each other on one band. It suits a couple who see the ring as a pair, and a woman who likes a design that is a little less expected. Our toi et moi rings guide goes through the pairings.
Toi et moi pear and cushion ring, from around ₹81,000. A pear and a cushion diamond side by side on a slim plain band, 1.00 carat in all.
Toi et moi round and pear ring, from around ₹99,000. A round and a pear diamond on the two open ends of the band, 1.40 carat in all.
7. Bezel: a rim of gold around the stone
A bezel holds the diamond in a thin rim of gold instead of prongs. A full bezel circles the whole stone; a half bezel holds two sides and leaves the ends open, so more of the diamond shows. With no prongs to catch, it suits a woman who works with her hands, travels often or never takes her ring off.
Amora oval half bezel ring, from around ₹89,000. An oval diamond held along its two long sides by curved rims of gold, the ends left open, on a plain band, 1.03 carat.
8. Vintage inspired: detail in the metal
Vintage inspired rings borrow from older jewellery. The usual signs are milgrain, a fine beaded edge along the band, textured or engraved shanks, and a centre stone set high. The diamond is modern; the gold work looks back. It suits a woman who loves old jewellery and wants a ring that rewards a closer look.
Amora round solitaire with milgrain edges, from around ₹1,39,000. A round diamond set high in four prongs, on a band edged with fine milgrain beading, 1.60 carat in all across 5 diamonds.
9. Split shank: a band that opens around the diamond
In a split shank the band divides in two as it reaches the centre stone. The two arms frame the diamond and give the ring a wider, bolder front than a single band. It suits a woman who wants a solitaire with more presence, and it sits well on longer fingers.
Amara round split shank ring, from around ₹1,51,500. A round diamond set between two arms of gold with a textured inner edge, 1.59 carat.

Which design for which hand
- Shorter fingers: an oval, pear or marquise on a slim band draws the eye along the finger and makes it look longer.
- Longer fingers: a halo, a three stone, a toi et moi or a split shank fills the space with more width.
- Busy hands: a bezel, or a solitaire set close to the band, with nothing raised to catch.
- Worn with a wedding band: a tall setting can leave a gap against a straight band, and an open toi et moi or a split shank changes the line a second ring has to follow. Bring the engagement ring when you choose the band; our engagement ring and wedding ring guide explains the fit.
What an engagement ring costs
At Nivara every diamond is priced at ₹50,000 per carat, always VVS clarity, E colour and ideal cut, so the price follows the total carats, with the gold and the setting added. A ring carrying 1 carat holds ₹50,000 of diamond before the gold and setting are added. The rings on this page run from around ₹41,000 to around ₹1,61,500 in 14k gold, and move with the gold rate. Our 1 carat lab grown diamond price guide breaks one carat down in full.

Frequently asked questions
What are the main engagement ring designs?
The nine main designs are the solitaire, the pavé band, the halo, the hidden halo, three stone, toi et moi, bezel, vintage inspired and split shank. The first four differ in where small diamonds sit around the main stone, if anywhere, three stone and toi et moi carry more than one main stone, and the last three change the gold around it.
Which engagement ring design looks biggest for its carat weight?
A halo. The ring of small diamonds around the centre makes it read larger than its own weight. Long shapes such as oval, pear and marquise also cover more of the finger than a round diamond of the same weight, so an oval halo makes the most of every carat.
Which engagement ring design is best for everyday wear?
A bezel or a solitaire set close to the band. A bezel wraps the diamond in a rim of gold, so there are no prongs to catch on a sweater, a dupatta or a laptop bag. A slim solitaire has the least to snag of all the prong set designs.
How long does an engagement ring take to arrive?
The pieces listed on our website usually take 18 to 20 days to deliver, depending on the design. Ask for the ready date of the exact ring you choose before you fix the date of the ring ceremony, and count back from it.
How much does a lab grown diamond engagement ring cost in India?
At Nivara every diamond is priced at ₹50,000 per carat for VVS clarity and E colour, so a ring follows its total carat weight, with the gold and design added. The rings on this page run from around ₹41,000 for a 0.41 carat solitaire to around ₹1,61,500 for a 2.38 carat ring with side stones, in 14k gold. Prices move with the gold rate.
