Emerald Cut Engagement Rings: Designs, Sizes and Prices in India

Three Nivara emerald cut lab grown diamond engagement rings: a hidden halo solitaire, a halo and a toi et moi

Updated 4 October 2026

An emerald cut is a rectangular diamond cut in long, parallel steps, with trimmed corners. Instead of scattered sparkle it gives broad flashes of light, like a hall of mirrors, and its open facets show the stone itself, so clarity matters more. A 1 carat emerald cut measures about 7.2 by 5.3 mm.

An emerald cut is a shape, not the green gemstone. Every ring below is set with a colourless diamond.

Why choose an emerald cut

  • It is calm. Long straight lines and a wide, open table give a clean, architectural look with nothing fussy in it.
  • It is long on the hand. A 1 carat emerald cut is about 7.2 mm long, against 6.5 mm across for a 1 carat round, though at 5.3 mm wide it is slimmer than the round.
  • It lengthens the hand. Set lengthwise, the rectangle draws a long line along the finger. Set across the finger, it reads modern.
  • It takes many settings. A plain solitaire, a halo, a hidden halo or a pair with a second stone all follow its straight lines.

Step cut and the hall of mirrors

A round brilliant is cut to scatter light into many small flashes. An emerald cut is a step cut: its facets run in long rows down the stone like a staircase, and they return light in broad planes that turn bright and dark as the stone moves. People call it a hall of mirrors. It is a quieter brilliance, built on lines rather than sparkle. If you love the scatter of a round, an emerald cut will feel calmer. If you love clean lines, this is the shape.

Emerald cut diamond sizes

Carat Length x width, about Diamond price at Nivara
0.50 ct 5.8 x 4.2 mm ₹25,000
0.75 ct 6.6 x 4.8 mm ₹37,500
1.00 ct 7.2 x 5.3 mm ₹50,000
1.50 ct 8.2 x 6.0 mm ₹75,000
2.00 ct 9.0 x 6.6 mm ₹1,00,000

Sizes assume a length to width ratio near 1.4, and an IGI report gives each stone's own measurements. Prices are for the diamond alone, VVS clarity and E colour; the gold and setting are added depending on the design. Our emerald diamond size guide has the same table, and the carat size chart shows rounds to scale.

The ratio gives an emerald cut its character. A lower ratio reads squarer and steadier, a higher one longer and slimmer. Neither is better, so look at a few on the hand and choose the outline that looks like her.

Why clarity matters more on an emerald cut

The wide steps let you look straight down into the stone. Where a round's many small facets break up a tiny inclusion, an emerald cut shows it, and it shows colour more readily too. That is why the standard matters more here. Every Nivara diamond is VVS clarity and E colour, which means any inclusions are very hard to see even under 10x magnification and the colour is in the colourless range. Each stone is IGI certified, and solitaires carry the report number laser inscribed.

Guard the corners

The trimmed corners are the most exposed part of an emerald cut. A prong at each corner, a frame of small diamonds or a rim of gold protects them, and every Nivara piece comes with lifetime prong tightening.

Emerald cut or radiant

Both are rectangles with trimmed corners, so they are easy to mistake for each other. An emerald cut is a step cut with long straight facets and a clear, open look. A radiant is a brilliant cut in the same outline, so it sparkles like a round. For the quiet look choose an emerald cut. For more fire in a rectangle, look at radiant diamond rings.

What comes with every piece

Frequently asked questions

Is an emerald cut diamond the same as an emerald?

No. Emerald cut is a shape: a rectangle with trimmed corners and long, stepped facets. An emerald is a green gemstone. Every emerald cut ring at Nivara is set with a lab grown diamond of VVS clarity and E colour, IGI certified.

Do emerald cut diamonds sparkle less than round diamonds?

They sparkle differently. A round brilliant scatters light into many small flashes. An emerald cut is a step cut, so its long facets return light in broad bands of bright and dark that shift as the stone moves. The light is calmer and cleaner, and you can see into the stone.

What size is a 1 carat emerald cut diamond?

About 7.2 by 5.3 mm for a standard ratio near 1.4. A 0.50 carat is about 5.8 by 4.2 mm, a 1.50 carat about 8.2 by 6.0 mm and a 2 carat about 9.0 by 6.6 mm. A 1 carat round is about 6.5 mm across. The IGI report gives each stone's own measurements.

Does clarity matter more on an emerald cut?

Yes. The long, open steps work like a window, so inclusions are easier to see than in a round, whose many small facets break them up, and colour shows more readily too. Every Nivara diamond is VVS clarity and E colour, which keeps the view through the steps clean.

How much does an emerald cut engagement ring cost at Nivara?

Every Nivara diamond is priced at ₹50,000 per carat for VVS clarity and E colour, so a 1 carat emerald cut diamond is ₹50,000 before the gold and setting. Our Mirage hidden halo ring, 1.02 carat in all, starts from around ₹91,000 in 14k gold, and prices move with the gold rate.
