Frequently Asked Questions
The things people ask us most, answered plainly.
Are lab grown diamonds real diamonds?
Yes. Lab grown diamonds are chemically, physically and optically identical to mined diamonds. They are pure carbon in a cubic crystal structure with the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index, and the same fire and brilliance. The only difference is origin: they are grown in a controlled environment rather than extracted from the earth. Every Nivara diamond comes with an IGI certificate.
What does a lab grown diamond cost at Nivara?
A Nivara diamond is ₹50,000 per carat, the same published rate for everyone. A 1 carat stone is ₹50,000 and a 2 carat stone is ₹1,00,000. The setting is priced separately depending on the metal and design, so you can see exactly what you are paying for the stone and what you are paying for the craft.
What quality of diamond does Nivara use?
One standard on every piece: VVS clarity, E colour, ideal cut with hearts and arrows precision. Every stone passes 27 quality checks before it is set. There are no grade tiers at Nivara, so there is no lower quality version of a Nivara diamond and no premium one.
What is an IGI certificate and why does it matter?
An IGI certificate is an independent third party grading report documenting a diamond's cut, colour, clarity, carat and growth method. Every diamond Nivara sells is IGI certified, with the report number laser inscribed on the girdle so your diamond and its paperwork can always be matched.
How do I know my diamond matches its certificate?
The IGI report number is laser inscribed on the girdle of the diamond itself. Under magnification you can read that number and check it against the certificate that ships with your piece. Paper and stone stay together for the life of the jewellery.
What is a light performance report?
It ships with every Nivara diamond and goes beyond the 4Cs. The 4Cs describe what a diamond is. The light performance report shows how it behaves on the hand, grading brightness, or white light returned, fire, or flashes of colour, and contrast, the crisp balance of light and dark.
Can a jeweller tell the difference between a lab grown and a mined diamond?
Not by eye, and not with a diamond tester, because a lab grown diamond is a diamond and registers as one. Distinguishing the two requires specialised laboratory equipment that detects growth patterns. This is why independent certification matters more than any in store claim.
Where are Nivara's showrooms located?
Nivara has three showrooms in India. Hyderabad at Road No. 92, Journalist Colony, MLA Colony, Jubilee Hills. Bangalore at 311, Kamaraj Road, Commercial Street. Indore at Ground and First Floor, Shivaay One, Yeshwant Niwas Road, Shivaji Nagar. All open 11 am to 9 pm, seven days a week.
Does Nivara offer virtual appointments?
Yes. If you are outside Hyderabad, Bangalore or Indore, we arrange video consultations. You can send diamond specifications on WhatsApp and receive live photos, videos and certificates before deciding. Bespoke pieces can be designed remotely and shipped securely.
Does Nivara ship across India?
Yes, with free insured shipping across India. If a piece arrives damaged or not as described, report it within 7 days and we will refund you in 6 to 8 days.
Can I customise a ring or jewellery piece at Nivara?
Yes. Bespoke design is one of our most requested services. You can work with our design team from first sketch through CAD renderings to the finished piece, at any of the three showrooms or remotely on WhatsApp and video.
What metals does Nivara use for jewellery?
BIS hallmarked gold in 18k and 14k, in yellow, white and rose, and platinum. Every piece carries a BIS hallmark, India's official certification of metal purity. 18k is richer in colour while 14k is harder wearing for pieces worn every day.
Does Nivara offer a buyback policy?
Yes, for life. Lifetime buyback is at 100% of the current gold value and 85% of the current diamond value, with making charges and taxes deducted.
What is the difference between exchange and buyback?
Exchange means trading your piece towards another Nivara piece, at 100% of the current gold value and 100% of the current diamond value. Making charges and taxes are waived within 15 days of purchase and deducted after that. Buyback means selling the piece back to us for money, at 100% of the current gold value and 85% of the current diamond value.
Is my jewellery cared for after I buy it?
Yes, for as long as you own it. Lifetime polishing, lifetime cleaning, a jewellery spa service, and prong tightening and maintenance, all included.
Which diamond shape should I choose?
Round brilliant returns the most light and suits almost any setting. Oval and pear elongate the finger and read larger for their carat weight. Emerald and asscher trade sparkle for clean lines and are unforgiving of a poor stone, which is why they look their best at VVS clarity. Princess, cushion, marquise and radiant each carry their own character.
Is lab grown diamond jewellery suitable for daily wear?
Yes. A diamond is the hardest natural material there is, and a lab grown diamond has identical hardness. For pieces worn every day we often suggest 14k gold, which is harder wearing than 18k, and settings that sit lower on the hand.
How long does a piece take to make?
Nivara jewellery is made to order, so timelines depend on the design. Your consultant will confirm a date when you place the order, and bespoke pieces are quoted individually once the design is finalised.
