Pear Engagement Rings: Designs, Sizes and Prices in India

Three Nivara pear cut lab grown diamond engagement rings: a solitaire, a halo and a toi et moi

Updated 4 October 2026

A pear diamond is round at one end and pointed at the other, a teardrop that gives a ring a clear direction. Set with the point toward the fingertip, it lengthens the finger. The point is also the one part of a pear that needs guarding, so the setting matters. Here are the designs, sizes and prices.

Why choose a pear

  • It lengthens the finger. Pointed toward the fingertip, the stone stretches the line of the hand.
  • It has a direction. A round looks the same from every side. A pear has a curve and a point, so you choose which way it faces, and the ring gets a character of its own.
  • It is two shapes in one. The curved end comes from the round brilliant and the point from the marquise, so a pear reads soft and sharp at once.
  • It takes many settings. A plain solitaire, a halo, a frame or two stones side by side all suit it.

Which way the point faces

On a ring a pear can point three ways, and each gives a different look.

  • Toward the fingertip. The traditional way, and the one that does the most for the hand. The point leads the eye along the finger, from knuckle to nail.
  • Across the finger. Set sideways, the pear reads as a drop lying down, a modern and architectural line. Toi et moi rings place two stones side by side across the finger.
  • Toward the hand. Less usual, and a matter of taste. The stone reads as a falling drop, closer to how a pear hangs in a pendant.

Hold your hand out and look at it. A pear draws the line you see there. Try a few on before you decide: a photograph cannot tell you which one looks like you.

Protecting the point

Diamond is the hardest natural material, but hard is not the same as unbreakable. A sharp corner can chip under a hard knock, and the point is the thinnest part of a pear. It is the one thing to look at in a pear ring, and a well made setting guards it in one of three ways.

  • A prong at the point. A prong, often shaped as a V, closes over the tip and takes the knock in place of the stone. It is the most direct answer, and it keeps the whole outline visible.
  • A frame or bezel. Gold follows the stone around its point and covers the tip.
  • A halo. A ring of small diamonds in metal runs around the outline, point included, and makes the centre read larger.

Whichever you choose, take the ring off for the gym and heavy work, and have it checked from time to time. Lifetime prong tightening comes with every Nivara piece, so the prong at the point is looked after for as long as you wear the ring.

Pear diamond sizes

Carat Length x width, about Diamond price at Nivara
0.50 ct 8.0 x 5.0 mm ₹25,000
0.75 ct 9.0 x 5.7 mm ₹37,500
1.00 ct 9.7 x 6.3 mm ₹50,000
1.50 ct 11.0 x 7.2 mm ₹75,000
2.00 ct 12.1 x 7.9 mm ₹1,00,000
3.00 ct 13.8 x 9.1 mm ₹1,50,000

Sizes vary slightly with the proportions of each stone. The table assumes a length to width ratio near 1.5: below that a pear reads fuller and rounder, above it longer and slimmer. Prices are for the diamond alone, VVS clarity and E colour; the gold and setting are added depending on the design. Our pear diamond size guide has the full table, and the carat size chart compares rounds.

Symmetry, the bow tie and cut

A pear has two halves that should mirror each other and a point that should sit in the centre. A small difference shows more on a pear than on a round, so look at the outline as well as the sparkle. Many pears also show a darker band across the middle, shaped like a bow tie, where some facets return less light. It comes with the shape, and a well cut stone keeps it faint. Every Nivara diamond is ideal cut, VVS clarity and E colour, and IGI certified. The best test is still your own eye: look at the ring in person and move it under light.

Pear engagement ring designs

Prices are for 14k gold and move with the gold rate. Carat figures marked in all count every diamond in the ring.

The solitaire

One pear and nothing competing with it, with a prong of its own at the point.

Pear or oval

Both are long shapes that carry the eye along the finger, and both take a halo or a second stone with ease. Choose a pear for the point and the teardrop line. Choose an oval if you would rather have no point to guard. For ovals, see our guide to oval engagement rings.

What comes with every piece

  • One diamond standard, whatever the budget: VVS clarity, E colour, ideal cut.
  • IGI certification, and on solitaires the report number laser inscribed on the stone, so the paper and the diamond are one.
  • 14k or 18k BIS hallmarked gold.
  • A lifetime exchange at 100% of the current gold and diamond value, and a lifetime buyback at 100% gold and 85% diamond value.

Frequently asked questions

Which way should a pear engagement ring point?

Toward the fingertip is the traditional way, and the one that lengthens the finger most. Some wearers set the pear across the finger, or toward the hand, for a different line. Try more than one on at a private viewing and choose the one that looks like you.

Is a pear diamond ring fragile?

Diamond is the hardest natural material, but the thin point of a pear can still chip under a hard knock. A prong at the point, a gold frame or a halo covers it, and you can take the ring off for heavy work. Lifetime prong tightening comes with every Nivara piece.

How big is a 1 carat pear diamond?

About 9.7 by 6.3 mm, from our pear size guide. A 0.50 carat pear is about 8.0 by 5.0 mm and a 2 carat pear about 12.1 by 7.9 mm. Sizes vary a little with the proportions of each stone.

How much does a pear engagement ring cost at Nivara?

Every Nivara diamond is priced at ₹50,000 per carat for VVS clarity and E colour, so a 1 carat pear is ₹50,000 before the gold and setting. Our Amora 0.50 carat pear solitaire starts from around ₹49,000 in 14k gold, and prices move with the gold rate.

What is the bow tie in a pear diamond?

A darker band across the middle of the stone, shaped like a bow tie, where some facets return less light. It comes with the shape. In a well cut pear it is faint and shifts as the stone moves. Look at the ring in person and turn it under light before you decide.
