A CVD diamond is a lab grown diamond made by chemical vapour deposition, and what you pay depends on its carat, colour, clarity and cut, not on the method. At Nivara, a VVS clarity, E colour, ideal cut diamond is ₹50,000 per carat: ₹50,000 for 1 carat, ₹1,00,000 for 2, before gold and setting.
What is a CVD diamond?
CVD stands for chemical vapour deposition. A thin slice of diamond, the seed, sits inside a vacuum chamber. A mix of carbon rich gases, usually methane and hydrogen, is energised with microwaves, and carbon settles onto the seed one layer at a time until a rough diamond has grown. It is then cut and polished like any other diamond. The result is a real diamond: pure carbon in the diamond crystal structure, with a hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale and a refractive index of 2.417. The other main method is HPHT, high pressure high temperature, which grows the crystal in a press instead. Both make the same material, and a certified diamond from either is graded on the same four Cs.
CVD diamond price per carat in India
Price follows the four Cs: carat, colour, clarity and cut. Nivara sets three of them the same for every diamond, VVS clarity, E colour and ideal cut, each IGI certified, so carat is the only thing that moves the price. The rate is ₹50,000 per carat, the same for everyone and at every size.
| Carat | Round diameter, about | Diamond price at Nivara |
|---|---|---|
| 0.50 ct | 5.2 mm | ₹25,000 |
| 0.75 ct | 5.8 mm | ₹37,500 |
| 1.00 ct | 6.5 mm | ₹50,000 |
| 1.50 ct | 7.4 mm | ₹75,000 |
| 2.00 ct | 8.2 mm | ₹1,00,000 |
| 2.50 ct | 8.8 mm | ₹1,25,000 |
| 3.00 ct | 9.4 mm | ₹1,50,000 |
Prices are for the diamond alone. The gold and setting are added depending on the design, and move with the gold rate. Diameters are about, for a well cut round brilliant. The full rate card is in our lab grown diamond price guide.
Does a CVD diamond cost less than an HPHT diamond?
Not in any consistent way. As our guide to CVD vs HPHT diamonds explains, in the Indian market diamonds of the same certified grades are priced comparably whichever process grew them, with no consistent premium for either at retail. What moves a price is the grade: a larger stone, a whiter colour, a cleaner clarity or a better cut costs more. So the useful question to ask a jeweller is not "is it CVD?" but "what are its carat, colour, clarity and cut?"
How to compare diamond prices between jewellers
A price means little without the grades behind it, because two stones of the same carat can sit at very different prices when their colour, clarity or cut differ. When you compare quotes from lab grown diamond companies in India, ask each one for the same things in writing: the carat weight, the colour grade, the clarity grade, the cut grade, and whether the price covers the diamond alone or the finished piece. Then ask for the IGI report number and check it on igi.org. On a Nivara solitaire the same number is laser inscribed on the stone, so the paper and the diamond are one.
The IGI report also names the growth method, CVD or HPHT, in its comments. That is a disclosure rather than a grade. The four Cs on the same report are what tell you how the diamond will look and what it should cost.
Work out your own price
Because the rate is flat, you can do the sum yourself: carat weight multiplied by ₹50,000. A 0.75 carat diamond is ₹37,500 and a 1.20 carat diamond is ₹60,000. There is no jump at the round number either: a 0.90 carat stone is ₹45,000 and a 1.00 carat stone is ₹50,000. Then add the gold and setting of the piece you choose. From diamond price to ring price
A ring is the diamond plus the gold and setting around it. These three Nivara solitaires show a stone's price beside the finished ring. Ring prices are for 14k gold and move with the gold rate.
Amora solitaire, 0.50 carat, from around ₹49,000. A single 0.50 carat round diamond, ₹25,000 at our rate, in four prongs on a plain gold band.
Amora minimal solitaire, 1 carat, from around ₹73,000. A single 1.00 carat round diamond, ₹50,000 at our rate, set into the side of a wide, smooth gold band.
Amora sleek solitaire, 1.60 carat, from around ₹1,38,000. A round diamond of 1.60 carat in all, ₹80,000 at our rate, in prongs above a gold band edged with fine beading.

Frequently asked questions
What is a CVD diamond, and is it real?
A CVD diamond is a lab grown diamond made by chemical vapour deposition. Carbon from a gas such as methane settles onto a diamond seed inside a vacuum chamber and builds the crystal layer by layer. It is a real diamond, pure carbon with a hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale, and it is graded on the same four Cs as any other diamond.
How much does a CVD diamond cost per carat in India?
It depends on the grades, not the method. At Nivara a VVS clarity, E colour, ideal cut diamond is ₹50,000 per carat, so 0.50 carat is ₹25,000, 1 carat is ₹50,000 and 3 carat is ₹1,50,000, before the gold and setting. The rate is the same at every size.
Does a CVD diamond cost less than an HPHT diamond?
Not in any consistent way. Our guide to CVD vs HPHT notes that in the Indian market, diamonds of the same certified grades are priced comparably whichever process grew them. Compare the carat, colour, clarity and cut on the certificate, because those decide the price.
How can I tell whether a diamond is CVD or HPHT?
Read the IGI report. It names the growth method in its comments, as a disclosure rather than a grade. The method is not a quality factor, so the carat, colour, clarity and cut grades on the same report matter more for how the diamond looks and what it should cost.
Are Nivara diamonds CVD or HPHT?
Nivara sources primarily CVD diamonds, and will source an HPHT stone if it meets a customer's brief and the IGI specification. Whichever process grew it, every Nivara diamond meets one standard: VVS clarity, E colour, ideal cut, IGI certified.
