Solitaire Rings for Women: Settings, Sizes and Prices in India

Three Nivara lab grown diamond solitaire rings: four prongs, six prongs and tall prongs with diamond shoulders

Updated 4 October 2026

A solitaire ring is a single diamond in a plain setting, with no other stone beside it. For a woman choosing one, what shapes it is the number of prongs, how the setting lifts the stone, the width of the band and the carats on her finger. At Nivara a 0.50 carat solitaire is from around ₹49,000 in 14k gold.

What makes a solitaire

A solitaire has one diamond and a setting that adds nothing else to look at. That is its idea and its test: with no other stones beside it, the diamond carries the whole ring, in every light and from every angle. It is the ring you look down at in a meeting, on a keyboard, at a traffic light, so the small choices below matter more than they seem.

It is also why one standard for every diamond matters here. Every Nivara diamond is VVS clarity, E colour and ideal cut, IGI certified, and on every solitaire the report number is laser inscribed on the stone.

Four prongs or six

Prongs are the small claws that hold the diamond. The number changes how the stone looks and how it is held.

  • Four prongs sit at the four points of a compass. They leave more of the diamond open and let in more light from the sides, so the stone looks airy and a little larger.
  • Six prongs hold the stone at six points, so there is more backup if one is knocked, and they trace the circle of a round diamond evenly. A little more metal shows.

Choose four for the most open look and six for a ring that will see a lot of use. Whichever you pick, the prongs are tightened for life at Nivara.

Amora 0.50 carat round lab grown diamond solitaire ring in four prongs

Amora round solitaire, from around ₹49,000. A 0.50 carat round in four slim prongs, on a band that rises towards the stone.

Amara round lab grown diamond solitaire ring in six prongs on a band set with small diamonds

Amara six prong solitaire, from around ₹1,47,500. A round diamond in six prongs, with small diamonds beneath the stone and along the band, 1.84 carat in all.

Cathedral, bezel and how the stone sits

The setting decides how high the diamond rides and how much metal touches it.

Cathedral

In a cathedral setting, arches of gold rise from the band on either side and meet at the stone, lifting it clear of the finger. It shows the diamond to the room and gives the ring a graceful line from the side. A taller ring can catch on sleeves more than a low one; in return it shows off the stone.

Amara cathedral solitaire, from around ₹1,24,000. A round diamond in four prongs, the band arching up on both sides to lift it, with small diamonds along the shoulders.

Half bezel and bezel

A bezel is a rim of gold around the diamond. A half bezel wraps part of the stone and leaves the rest open to the light. It protects the edge of the diamond, sits low and smooth, and suits hands that are always busy: typing, driving, carrying. A solitaire does not have to be round, and an oval looks larger than a round of the same weight. See our guide to oval engagement rings.

Amora 1.03 carat oval lab grown diamond solitaire ring in a half bezel setting

Amora half bezel oval, from around ₹88,000. A 1.03 carat oval held in a half bezel on a slim band.

Band width and shape

The band is the frame. A slim band leaves the diamond alone and, by contrast, makes it look larger. A wider band is bolder, sits more steadily on the hand, and suits a larger stone or a woman who likes some weight on the finger. A split shank, where the band divides into two arms near the stone, gives the diamond a wider base beneath it without adding a single extra stone. Small diamonds along the band add sparkle from the side while the centre stays the stone you see first. A plain band stacks easily with other rings.

Amora 1.05 carat round lab grown diamond solitaire ring on a wide gold band

Amora wide band solitaire, from around ₹1,33,500. A 1.05 carat round held between the raised ends of a wide, flat band.

Amara 1.59 carat round lab grown diamond solitaire ring on a split shank band

Amara split shank solitaire, from around ₹1,51,000. A 1.59 carat round in prongs, on a band that divides into two arms at the stone.

How big a solitaire looks on the hand

Carat is weight, not width. A 2 carat round is about 8.2 mm across against about 6.5 mm for a 1 carat, so it looks roughly a quarter wider, not twice as big. The table uses the round sizes from our diamond carat size chart and shows how much of a finger about 16 mm across each one covers.

Carat Across, about On a 16 mm finger Diamond price at Nivara
0.50 ct 5.2 mm about a third ₹25,000
0.75 ct 5.8 mm just over a third ₹37,500
1.00 ct 6.5 mm about two fifths ₹50,000
1.50 ct 7.4 mm just under half ₹75,000
2.00 ct 8.2 mm about half ₹1,00,000
3.00 ct 9.4 mm about three fifths ₹1,50,000

Diameters are for a well cut round and vary slightly with proportions. Prices are for the diamond alone, VVS clarity and E colour; the gold and setting are added depending on the design. A slimmer finger makes the same diamond look larger, and a broader one makes it look smaller, so the surest test is your own hand.

Here are three real rings at three sizes. On a ring that carries small diamonds the carat is the total for every stone, so the centre diamond weighs less than the figure shown.

Amora 0.41 carat round lab grown diamond solitaire ring in four prongs

Amora sleek solitaire, from around ₹1,38,000. A round diamond in slim prongs on a plain band with finely beaded edges, 1.60 carat in all.

Amara round lab grown diamond solitaire ring on tall prongs with diamond shoulders, 2.40 carat in all

Amara tall prong solitaire, from around ₹1,71,500. A round diamond on tall prongs, with small diamonds beneath it and along the shoulders, 2.40 carat in all.

What a solitaire costs

A solitaire is simple to price. The diamond is ₹50,000 per carat at every size, VVS clarity and E colour, and the gold and setting are added on top. On this page a 0.41 carat solitaire starts from around ₹41,000 and a 1.59 carat solitaire from around ₹1,51,000, in 14k gold. Prices move with the gold rate, and every piece is available in 14k and 18k, BIS hallmarked.

Solitaire or halo

Choose a solitaire when you want the single stone and nothing around it. Choose a halo when you want the centre to read larger and brighter: read how a halo changes the look in our guide to halo engagement rings. Either way the diamond meets the same standard, so the choice is about the look you like on your own hand.

Frequently asked questions

Is a four prong or a six prong solitaire better?

Neither is better; they suit different priorities. Four prongs show more of the diamond and let in more light, so the stone looks open and a little larger. Six prongs hold it at more points, which gives extra backup if one prong is knocked, and show a little more metal. Try both on at a viewing and see which looks like yours.

What carat solitaire should a woman choose?

There is no right number, only the one that suits your hand and your day. A 0.50 carat round, about 5.2 mm across, is fine and light; 1 carat, about 6.5 mm, is a clear centre stone; 2 carats, about 8.2 mm, is a statement. Try two sizes on your own hand before you decide.

How much does a solitaire ring cost at Nivara?

Every Nivara diamond is priced at ₹50,000 per carat for VVS clarity and E colour, with the gold and setting added. Our 0.41 carat four prong solitaire is from around ₹41,000 in 14k gold, and our 1.05 carat wide band solitaire from around ₹1,33,500. Prices move with the gold rate.

Is a solitaire practical for everyday wear?

Yes, when the setting suits your day. A low setting or a bezel sits close to the finger and catches less on sleeves and bags. A cathedral or a tall setting shows more of the diamond and needs a little more care. Every Nivara piece includes lifetime cleaning and prong tightening, and resizing is free within 30 days.

Can I buy a solitaire ring for myself?

Yes. A solitaire is a ring first and an engagement ring only if you choose it to be. It suits any finger and any day, which is why many women pick their own: one stone, set the way you like it, to wear to work, to dinner and everywhere between.
