How big is a 1 carat diamond?
Carat is a measure of weight, not of size, which is why two 1 carat diamonds can look different across a table. A well proportioned 1 carat round brilliant measures roughly 6.4 mm to 6.5 mm across the top. That is the face up size you actually see once the stone is set.
Cut is what decides whether the full weight is working for you. A stone cut too deep hides some of its weight in the bottom of the diamond, so it weighs a carat but reads smaller on the hand. 0.90 carat or a full 1 carat?
Many buyers stop just short of a carat because, at most jewellers, the price jumps sharply at the round number. A 0.90 carat stone can look almost identical on the hand and cost noticeably less.
At Nivara that calculation is simpler, because the rate is flat at ₹50,000 per carat and does not step up at one carat. A 0.90 carat stone is ₹45,000 and a 1.00 carat stone is ₹50,000. The difference is ₹5,000 and about a quarter of a millimetre in diameter. There is no premium for the round number, so the choice is yours to make on how it looks rather than on where the price breaks.
