Lab Grown Diamond Engagement Rings India
Engagement Rings, and the One Decision Behind Them
An engagement ring is bought once, worn for decades, and looked at more often than any other object a person owns. It is also, for most buyers, the first serious diamond purchase of their life, made under time pressure, often in secret, and with no way to practise.
This page is written to remove that disadvantage. It covers when to order, how to work out what she wants without asking, how to get the size right without giving anything away, what the certificate actually proves at the moment the box opens, and what happens after the answer is yes. Every ring in this collection is set with an IGI certified lab-grown diamond of VVS clarity and E colour, cut to ideal proportions with a hearts and arrows pattern, in 14K or 18K BIS hallmarked gold.
Start With the Date, and Work Backwards
The most avoidable mistake in engagement ring buying is starting too late. Every Nivara ring is made to order in about three weeks, and shipping across India is free and fully insured on top of that. If the ring needs resizing before the proposal, that is more time again.
Work backwards from the date you intend to propose and give yourself a clear margin. Six weeks is comfortable. Four is workable. Two is a scramble that limits you to whatever is finished rather than what is right. If you are proposing around a wedding season date, a festival, or a family event that already has a fixed calendar, tell us the date when you order and we will plan production around it rather than around an average.
If the date is genuinely close, come into a showroom and talk to us before ordering online. There are almost always ways to make a real date work, but they are decided in conversation, not in a cart.
Deciding Together, or Deciding Alone
There is no correct answer to this, and the honest position is that both work. What matters is knowing which one you are doing, because the process is different. If the harder conversation is with parents rather than with each other, we have written separately on how to talk to your family about choosing a lab-grown diamond.
If you are choosing together
Come to a showroom and try things on. Twenty minutes with real rings on a real hand settles questions that months of scrolling will not. Shapes photograph very differently from how they wear, and almost every couple who arrives certain about a shape leaves having changed their mind at least once.
If you are choosing alone
You are not guessing. You are gathering evidence, and there is more of it available than most buyers realise.
- Look at the jewellery she already owns. Metal colour is the strongest signal of all. Someone who wears only yellow gold will not suddenly want white, and the reverse is equally true.
- Look at scale. Does she wear delicate, low profile pieces, or bold ones? A person who wears fine chains and small studs will usually not be comfortable with a high set statement ring, regardless of carat.
- Look at the shapes she has chosen before. Shape preference is remarkably stable across a lifetime.
- Ask her closest friend or her sister, not her mother. They know the current taste rather than the remembered one, and they are far better at keeping the secret.
- Consider her hands and her work. A surgeon, a teacher, a potter and a lawyer do not need the same setting. This is the single most useful thing you can factor in, and the one nobody thinks about.
The Styles, and What They Say
Engagement ring styles are not interchangeable. Each one carries a different reading, and most people have a clear instinct once the options are named.
- Solitaire. One diamond, nothing else. The most enduring engagement ring there is, and the most honest, because there is nothing on the ring to distract from the cut of the stone. Browse solitaire engagement rings.
- Halo. A ring of small diamonds framing the centre stone, which lifts apparent size noticeably and adds a band of brilliance at the edge. Browse halo diamond rings.
- Three stone. A centre flanked by two smaller diamonds, most often read as past, present and future. The proportion between the three is what makes the design work. Browse three stone rings.
- Toi et moi. Two stones side by side, distinct but inseparable, often in contrasting shapes. It is the most contemporary engagement silhouette we make and it is increasingly the most requested. Browse toi et moi engagement rings.
- Bezel. A full rim of gold around the stone. Modern, quietly confident, and by some distance the most practical for a partner whose hands are never still.
- Pave band. Small diamonds set flush along the shoulders. It adds light along the whole finger without raising the profile.
Choosing the shape of the centre stone
- Round brilliant. Maximum brilliance and maximum certainty. If you are choosing alone and have limited evidence, this is the safest shape in the collection.
- Oval. Our most requested engagement shape. It faces up larger than a round of identical weight and elongates the finger.
- Cushion. Softer corners, warmer and more classical, and forgiving on almost every hand.
- Emerald. Quiet and architectural, with broad flashes rather than sparkle. It reveals clarity more openly than any other shape, which is exactly why we set only VVS stones beneath it.
- Pear and marquise. Directional and unmistakable, worn point outward to lengthen the finger. A confident choice rather than a safe one.
- Princess. Sharp cornered and contemporary, and efficient with rough, so it often gives more visible spread per carat.
Getting the Size Right Without Asking
Borrow a ring she already wears on the ring finger of the correct hand and bring it to any Nivara showroom. We will size from it in minutes. That single method beats every other approach, and it is worth the small effort of retrieving a ring quietly for a day.
If borrowing is impossible, the second best evidence is a ring she wears on a different finger, which we can adjust for, or a friend with a comparable hand who is willing to be measured. Do not estimate from a photograph, and do not rely on a string wrapped around a sleeping finger, because fingers swell overnight and both methods routinely land two sizes out.
Fingers also change through the day and the year: smallest in the early morning and in cold weather, largest in the evening and in humidity. And because resizing is included in Nivara's lifetime care, a first guess that is slightly off is a small correction rather than a lasting regret.
What the Certificate Does at the Moment the Box Opens
An engagement ring is presented, examined, photographed, and shown to family, often within the same hour. The confidence you need at that moment is not aesthetic, it is factual, and it comes from documentation that anyone can check independently.
Every Nivara diamond is IGI certified, with the report number laser inscribed on the girdle of the stone so the certificate and the diamond can never be separated or substituted. Alongside the IGI report, each stone ships with a light performance report that grades brightness, the white light it returns, fire, the flashes of colour it throws, and contrast, the crisp balance of light and dark the eye reads as life. If someone asks what she is wearing, the answer is on paper and the paper is verifiable. Our guide to the IGI certificate explains how to read every line of it.
The Nivara Standard
One standard, with no entry level tier, across every engagement ring we make.
- VVS clarity. Inclusions invisible to the eye under any normal condition.
- E colour. Colourless, so the stone reads white against any metal.
- Ideal cut, hearts and arrows precise. The optical symmetry pattern only correctly proportioned stones produce.
- Chosen by our own gemologists and put through 27 quality checks before setting.
- IGI certified, report number laser inscribed on the girdle.
How We Are Priced, and How to Think About Budget
A Nivara VVS E diamond is ₹50,000 per carat, the same rate for every buyer, stated plainly. Setting and metal are priced separately and depend on the design, because gold is weighed rather than estimated and the labour on a halo is not the labour on a solitaire. There are no grade tiers, because there is no lower grade to sell.
On budget, ignore the old rules about months of salary. They were written by advertisers, not by anyone who knows your circumstances. Decide the number you are comfortable with first, then spend it in the order that gives the most visible ring: cut quality first, because it decides how the stone behaves in every light it will ever sit under, then shape and setting, because they decide apparent size, and carat last. A well cut oval in a halo will read larger and livelier than a heavier stone in a plain setting at the same total.
Bespoke Engagement Rings
If the ring in your head does not exist in the collection, we build it. The process is straightforward: a consultation to understand the design, a CAD rendering for your approval so you see the exact proportions before anything is cut, a wax sample where the design needs it, then production. Typically three to four weeks start to finish.
This is more common than buyers expect. Several of the toi et moi and three stone designs now in the collection began as a customer's sketch. Bespoke pieces are held to exactly the same diamond standard and carry exactly the same lifetime terms as everything else we make. If you want to begin, our customisation page is the starting point.
After She Says Yes
The purchase does not end at the proposal, and a little planning here saves a great deal later.
- Resizing. Bring the ring in and we will size it exactly, at no cost, as part of lifetime care.
- The wedding band. Decide early whether the two will be worn together. A high set or cathedral engagement ring often needs a contoured band to sit flush, and designing the pair together is far easier than retrofitting. Browse eternity and wedding bands.
- Matching pieces. Many couples add coordinated pieces for the wedding itself. See diamond earrings and diamond pendants, or diamond mangalsutras for the ceremony.
- His ring. If you want a matched pair rather than two separate purchases, see couple rings and rings for men.
- Care from day one. Take the ring off before hand cream, at the gym, and during heavy cleaning. Have the prongs checked once a year. Both are free at any showroom for life.

See Them in Person
An engagement ring deserves to be chosen where you can compare cuts and settings side by side under real light, and where someone can answer the question you did not know to ask.
- Hyderabad. Road No. 92, Journalist Colony, MLA Colony, Jubilee Hills.
- Bangalore. 311, Kamaraj Road, Commercial Street.
- Indore. Ground and First Floor, Shivaay One, Yeshwant Niwas Road, Shivaji Nagar.
All three are open 7 days a week, 11 am to 9 pm. Book a private viewing for an unhurried consultation, which is what we would recommend for a proposal. If you are not near one of our three cities, a video consultation covers exactly the same ground: live stones under a loupe, settings shown on camera, and delivery fully insured to your door.
