IGI-Certified Diamonds: What the Certificate Means
What Is an IGI Certificate?
An IGI (International Gemological Institute) certificate is a comprehensive grading report issued for each individual diamond. It documents the stone's precise characteristics: Cut, Colour, Clarity, and Carat weight, along with measurements, finish grades, and fluorescence.
Every Nivara diamond is IGI-certified. This means an independent expert, not the seller, has examined and graded your stone before it reaches you.
What the Certificate Contains
| Field | What It Tells You |
|---|---|
| Report Number | Unique identifier: laser-inscribed on the girdle of the diamond |
| Shape & Cut Style | e.g., Round Brilliant, Princess, Oval |
| Measurements | Exact dimensions in millimetres |
| Carat Weight | Weight to the nearest 0.01ct |
| Colour Grade | D (colourless) through Z on the international scale |
| Clarity Grade | FL (Flawless) through I3. Based on inclusions under 10x magnification |
| Cut Grade | Excellent / Very Good / Good. Applies to round brilliants |
| Polish & Symmetry | How precisely the facets are finished and aligned |
| Fluorescence | How the stone reacts under UV light |
Why IGI for Lab-Grown Diamonds?
IGI is the world's leading authority for lab-grown diamond grading: the same rigorous standards applied to natural diamonds, adapted specifically for laboratory-grown stones. Other labs may grade lab-grown diamonds, but IGI is the benchmark the industry trusts.
How to Verify Your Certificate
Every IGI certificate can be verified at igi.org/verify using the report number. The laser inscription on your diamond's girdle matches the report number: confirmable under a loupe at any Nivara showroom.
