Solitaire Diamond Pendant: Carat Sizes, Settings and Price (2026)

Solitaire pendant size chart showing round diamonds from 0.25 to 2 carats on chains, drawn to scale

Updated 8 October 2026

A solitaire diamond pendant, sometimes sold as a solitaire necklace, is one diamond on a chain. A 0.50 carat round diamond measures about 5.2 mm across, a 1 carat about 6.5 mm and a 1.50 carat about 7.4 mm. At Nivara every lab grown diamond is ₹50,000 per carat, with the gold and setting added.

Diameters are for a well cut round brilliant and come from our diamond carat size chart, which also shows 2.50 and 3 carats. They vary slightly with cut proportions; every Nivara diamond is ideal cut. Prices are for the diamond alone, VVS clarity and E colour. The gold and setting are added depending on the design.

Which carat size for a solitaire pendant

  • 0.25 carat, about 4.1 mm: a fine point of light. Right for a first pendant, for layering, and for anyone who wants her diamond noticed up close.
  • 0.50 carat, about 5.2 mm: the classic everyday size. Clearly a diamond across a table, and quiet enough for an office.
  • 0.75 to 1 carat, about 5.8 to 6.5 mm: a pendant people notice. At 1 carat the diamond is the focus of the neckline.
  • 1.50 carats and more, 7.4 mm and up: for occasions, or for someone who likes her diamonds large.

Carat measures weight, not width, so doubling the carats widens a round diamond by only about a quarter. A pendant has no finger to measure against, and the chain and the neckline change how large a diamond looks, so the surest test is to try two neighbouring sizes on at a private viewing.

Solitaire pendant shapes and their sizes

Round is the classic, but a pendant can hold any shape. At the same carat weight the shapes measure differently, because each spreads its weight in its own way. An oval carries it in a longer outline, so it looks larger than a round of the same carat. Princess and cushion cuts carry more weight in depth, so they measure a little smaller across.

Shape 0.50 carat, about 1.00 carat, about
Round 5.2 mm 6.5 mm
Oval 6.5 by 4.5 mm 7.7 by 5.7 mm
Princess 4.4 by 4.4 mm 5.5 by 5.5 mm
Cushion 4.8 by 4.8 mm 6.2 by 6.2 mm

These sizes come from our guides to oval, princess and cushion diamond sizes, which go up to 3 carats.

Solitaire pendant settings

The setting decides how the diamond sits, how much light reaches it and how it wears. Three matter most for a solitaire pendant.

Four prong

Four slim prongs hold the diamond and leave most of it open, so light enters from every side and the stone stays bright. On a round diamond, four prongs can make the outline read very slightly squarer. It is the classic pendant setting, and it shows more of the diamond than six prongs or a bezel.

Six prong

Six prongs hold the diamond more securely, and larger diamonds are usually set with more prongs. They also trace the round outline more closely. The six prong pendant below is the largest solitaire pendant on this page, at 1.51 carats.

Bezel

A bezel wraps the edge of the diamond in a smooth rim of gold. It protects the thin outer edge of the stone and has no prongs to catch on a dupatta or a knit, so it is the practical choice for a pendant worn every day. It lets slightly less light into the diamond than open prongs, which gives a cleaner, more graphic look.

On a bail or joined to the chain

Some solitaire pendants hang from a small gold bail, which lets the diamond swing a little and catch light as she moves. Others are joined into the chain at either side, so the diamond sits centred and still. Both are shown below.

Chain and what comes with the pendant

A fine chain lets the diamond lead. Pendant listings differ on whether a chain is included, so the product page states what comes with each piece. Chain lengths, and which neckline each one suits, are in the same pendant designs guide. If you will wear the pendant on a chain you already own, ask us before you order.

What a solitaire diamond pendant costs

At Nivara the diamond is priced at ₹50,000 per carat, always VVS clarity, E colour and ideal cut, so a pendant's price follows its carat weight plus the gold and setting. A 0.50 carat diamond is ₹25,000 and a 1 carat diamond ₹50,000. The solitaire pendants on this page run from around ₹48,000 to around ₹1,30,000 in 14k gold, and every piece is also available in 18k. Two pendants of the same carat can differ in price because of the gold and the setting, so compare like for like.

Comparing pendants across brands? Ask each one which laboratory certifies every diamond, whether the grade is the same on every piece, and whether the price is published. Our guide to lab grown diamond brands in India sets out eight questions to put to any brand.

What comes with every piece

  • One diamond standard, whatever the budget: VVS clarity, E colour, ideal cut.
  • IGI certification, and on solitaires the report number laser inscribed on the stone, so the paper and the diamond are one.
  • 14k or 18k BIS hallmarked gold.
  • A lifetime exchange at 100% of the current gold and diamond value, and a lifetime buyback at 100% gold and 85% diamond value.
  • Lifetime polishing, cleaning and prong tightening, for as long as the piece is worn.

Frequently asked questions

What size solitaire pendant should I buy?

For a pendant worn every day, 0.50 carat, about 5.2 mm across, is the classic: clearly a diamond, and quiet enough for an office. A 0.25 carat, about 4.1 mm, is a fine point of light for a first pendant or for layering. From 0.75 carat, about 5.8 mm, a pendant is noticed across a table.

How big is a 1 carat solitaire pendant?

A 1 carat round diamond measures about 6.5 mm across. Fancy shapes differ at the same weight: a 1 carat princess is about 5.5 mm square and a 1 carat oval about 7.7 by 5.7 mm. The diamond alone is ₹50,000 at Nivara. Our 1 carat solitaire pendants on this page run from around ₹81,000 to around ₹1,04,000 in 14k gold, which includes the gold and setting.

Which setting is best for a solitaire pendant worn every day?

A bezel or a four prong setting. A bezel wraps the edge of the diamond in a smooth rim of gold, which protects it and leaves nothing to catch on a dupatta or a knit, and it lets slightly less light into the stone. Four slim prongs leave most of the diamond open to light, which keeps it brighter. Take either off for workouts, and clean it at home with warm water, mild soap and a soft toothbrush.

How much does a solitaire diamond pendant cost?

At Nivara every diamond is priced at ₹50,000 per carat for VVS clarity and E colour, so a 0.50 carat stone is ₹25,000 in diamond value and a 1 carat stone ₹50,000, with the gold and setting added by design. The solitaire pendants on this page run from around ₹48,000 to around ₹1,30,000 in 14k gold, and prices move with the gold rate.

Does a solitaire pendant come with a chain?

It depends on the piece. In our photographs the pendant is shown on a chain, and the product page states what is included. If you will wear it on a chain you already own, ask us before you order and we will tell you exactly what comes with the pendant.
