At an Indian ring ceremony both of you put on a ring, so couple rings are chosen as a pair. The simplest rule: match the gold colour and the diamond quality, then let each ring suit the hand that wears it. Every Nivara diamond is VVS E and IGI certified, set in 14k or 18k hallmarked gold.
What are couple rings?
Couple rings are two rings chosen to go together, one for each of you. In India they are usually exchanged at the engagement, the ring ceremony, and often worn every day after, sometimes in place of wedding bands. They can be identical, or two different rings that share a metal, a shape or a detail.
Do couple rings have to match?
No. There are three ways to make a pair, and all three are right.
- Identical. The same design in two sizes. Simple and symbolic, though a design made for one hand rarely suits both equally well.
- Matched. The same gold colour and diamond quality, different designs: her solitaire, his band with a single diamond. The most versatile choice.
- Complementary. Two different rings that share one idea: the same diamond shape, the same setting style, or two stones on her ring that echo the single stone on his.
If you are unsure, match the metal and the diamond standard, and let each of you choose the design you would wear anyway. Most of our rings come in yellow, rose and white gold, so a pair can match exactly.
Which finger is the couple ring worn on?
The most common choice in India is the fourth finger of the left hand, for both partners. Some families prefer the right hand. Either is correct. Follow the custom that matters to your families, and size each ring for the hand it will be worn on, since fingers on the dominant hand often run slightly larger.

How to budget for two rings
Decide the total together, then decide the split. Traditionally her ring carries the larger diamond, but that is yours to decide. At Nivara a diamond is priced plainly: ₹50,000 per carat for a VVS E stone, with the gold and setting added. So you can see exactly what each diamond adds, and move budget between the two rings with open eyes. The three pairs above run from about ₹2.1 lakh to ₹2.8 lakh for both rings in 14k gold.
Sizing both of you
Every ring is made to order in the wearer's size, and if the fit is not right we resize it free within 30 days of purchase. Men's sizes run larger, and fingers change through the day, so measure in the evening when they are at their fullest. Our India ring size chart shows how.
Can couple rings be your wedding rings?
Yes. Some couples wear their couple rings as wedding rings too; others add a band at the wedding. A band set with diamonds sits well beside a solitaire, and a plain gold band suits a man's solitaire ring. Our wedding band guide covers pairing a band with an engagement ring.

What comes with every piece
- One diamond standard, whatever the budget: VVS clarity, E colour, ideal cut.
- IGI certification, and on solitaires the report number laser inscribed on the stone, so the paper and the diamond are one.
- 14k or 18k BIS hallmarked gold.
- A lifetime exchange at 100% of the current gold and diamond value, and a lifetime buyback at 100% gold and 85% diamond value.
- Lifetime polishing, cleaning and prong tightening, for as long as the piece is worn.
Choose them side by side
Couple rings are easiest to choose together, with both rings on at the same time. Book a private viewing for the two of you at our showrooms in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Indore or Ahmedabad.

How much should we spend on couple rings?
Decide the total together, then the split. At Nivara a VVS E diamond is ₹50,000 per carat, with the gold and setting added, so you can see what each diamond adds. The pairs in this guide start from about ₹2.1 lakh for both rings in 14k gold.
Can couple rings be used as wedding rings?
Yes. Some couples wear their couple rings as wedding rings too; others add a band at the wedding. A band set with diamonds sits well beside a solitaire, and a plain gold band suits a man's solitaire ring.
Are lab grown diamonds good for engagement rings?
Yes. A lab grown diamond is a real diamond, with the same hardness and brilliance as a mined one, so it is made for daily wear. Every Nivara diamond is VVS clarity, E colour, ideal cut and IGI certified, whatever the size of the ring.
