What is an illusion setting?

The diamond is set into a faceted metal plate that is polished and cut to reflect light in the same plane as the stone, so the eye reads the diamond and the surrounding metal as one larger diamond. It is a technique for making a modest stone present as something considerably bigger. This is a focused pair of designs, the Amora illusion setting round diamond pendant and the Amora round pendant in illusion setting.

Is an illusion setting a way of hiding a lesser diamond?

Not at Nivara. It is an optical design technique, and it works on any grade of stone. The diamonds in these pendants are the same VVS clarity, E colour, ideal cut and hearts and arrows precise stones used everywhere else on the site, through the same 27 quality checks, IGI certified with the report number laser inscribed on the girdle.

Why are there only two designs?

An illusion setting only works when the metalwork is cut and polished precisely enough to match the light return of the diamond beside it. It is difficult to do well and looks poor when it is done casually, so we keep the range deliberately small rather than expanding it. What do the illusion setting pendants cost?

The two designs currently sit at about ₹48,000 and about ₹92,000. The diamond is ₹50,000 per carat for VVS clarity and E colour, the same rate for every buyer, and the metal and setting are additional. The setting labour on an illusion mount is higher than a plain bezel because of the precision required in the metalwork.

Does the illusion effect fade over time?

The effect depends on the polish of the metal plate, so it dulls if the piece is left dirty, and it returns fully with cleaning. Wash in warm water with a drop of mild soap and a soft brush, and avoid abrasive polishes, which will scratch the reflective surface and permanently reduce the effect. Any Nivara showroom will restore the polish for you.

Does the illusion mount affect what I get back on exchange?

No. The exchange values the gold and the diamond, not the setting technique. You receive 100% of the current gold value and 100% of the current diamond value against another Nivara piece, with making charges and taxes waived within 15 days of purchase and deducted after. The lifetime buyback returns 100% of the current gold value and 85% of the current diamond value, with making charges and taxes always deducted. Anything damaged, defective or not as described should be reported within 7 days, with any refund processed in 6 to 8 days.
