She Shines, She Inspires: Celebrating WOMEN this International Women’s Day

She Shines, She Inspires: Celebrating WOMEN this International Women’s Day

Women: The storytellers of generations, the warriors of today and the dreamers of tomorrow.

The world shines a little brighter because of women when they lead, nurture, create and transform. She embodies grace with resilience that lights her path every step of the way. She is the mother who loves unconditionally, the daughter who dreams fearlessly, the sister who stands by your side and the leader who inspires change. Like a diamond, she endures pressure, transforms and emerges stronger while sparkling in her own unique way.

Think of a woman who has inspired you: your mother, sister, friend or mentor. What makes her extraordinary in your eyes? Her strength? Her kindness? Her ability to be soft? Her never-give-up attitude and ability to rise, no matter what? Today, we celebrate her and every other woman who makes the world a brighter, kinder and better place to live just by being herself.

From where did it all start ?

In the early 1900s, International Women’s Day began when women around the world started fighting for better working conditions, equal rights and the right to vote. The first official Women’s Day was held in 1909 in the United States which was organized by the Socialist Party of America.

The movement became even stronger in 1910 when a German activist, Clara Zetkin, suggested having a special day every year to celebrate WOMEN. This idea was presented at the International Socialist Women’s Conference and gained worldwide support. On March 8, 1911, the first official International Women’s Day was celebrated in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland, where thousands of people marched for women's rights and fair work conditions. Over the years, it continued to grow and in 1977, the United Nations officially recognized March 8 as International Women’s Day.

This year, International Women’s Day sends a strong message with this year’s theme, Accelerate Action. While we’ve made progress toward gender equality, at this rate, it could possibly take more than five generations to achieve true fairness. This theme is a call to urgency, a reminder that change cannot wait.

It encourages people, businesses, and governments to take big steps now to close the gender pay gap, end discrimination and give women more leadership opportunities. A few ways of how we can make a difference now is by supporting women-led businesses, by ensuring equal education and by creating safer spaces for them. Each and every action matters. And, the time for waiting is over. It’s our time to act now and build a fairer and more equal world for all women and girls today, not years from now.

Women shaping the jewelry industry
  1. Lorraine Schwartz, a world-renowned jewelry designer who is known for her luxurious diamond creations that are mostly seen on the biggest celebrities. Her bold and dazzling designs feature rare and flawless diamonds, emeralds and sapphires, making her a favorite among A-list stars like Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, Angelina Jolie, and Rihanna. Beyond jewelry, Lorraine is also committed to philanthropy, supporting cancer research and launching the Against All Odds scholarship to help underprivileged students enter the jewelry industry.

  2. Kendra Scott is a self-made entrepreneur who built a billion-dollar jewelry empire from scratch. She started her business in 2002 with just $500 and a small collection of handmade jewelry, selling her pieces door-to-door. Her brand quickly gained popularity for its affordable, stylish and colorful gemstone jewelry, offering a perfect blend of luxury and everyday wear. Today, Kendra Scott Jewelry is a billion-dollar company with over 100 retail stores and a massive online presence. Also, she is deeply involved in philanthropy, donating a portion of profits to support women’s and children’s charities, as well as funding education and healthcare initiatives.
